What is the Full Figures Organization

Full Figures is a national non-profit size acceptance organization dedicated to the empowerment and advancement of plus size women in today's society. Currently the nation's largest organization dedicated to plus size women with over 35,000 members. FFO promotes positive self-image, health awareness, sharing of strengths and sisterhood within the plus size community. We offer an atmosphere of acceptance, friendship, and support while educating women on the benefits of remaining healthy. We take strides to be a constant positive movement within the public eye, keeping events consistent and morale high. We target growth and development of the plus size women's state of mind, body and soul. Furthermore, Full Figures also connects to our members by promoting education and networking opportunities.

What sets this organization apart from other organizations

Full Figures is a non-profit organization that doesn't cater to just one aspect of a woman's life. FFO deals with the mind, the body, and the soul by presenting a variety of programs and activities. We would like to encourage women of all ages to understand that any size or shape can be a healthy size. Also, we would like emphasize that there are many multitudes of good health and attractiveness. FFO does not just push a health boosting agenda; we also focus on self worth. It has been noted that when low self esteem is not properly treated it chips away at a woman’s self worth. Self worth, by Full Figures terms, is realizing everyone deserves to be respected regardless of physical attributes or personality flaws. Lack of self worth can cause multiple issues in all facets of a woman life. Full Figures has chosen to dive deeper into the self esteem issues to help women build up their self worth.

Full Figures is also very family-oriented. We like to involve our members' family in our activities as much as we can. When not with our families, Full Figures is a sister hood in itself. We encourage our staff and members to lend support even outside of our events. Our logic of sisterly support will enhance our FFO member’s on the inside that will in turn show on the outside.

History of FFO

The history of the Full Figures Organization

The Full Figures Organization was created in 2005 originally under the name “Phat Izm” in response to founder, Marketa Dillard, seeing the need for positive plus size imagery and support in her local Detroit area. When Full Figures was birthed, Detroit was deemed the "fattest" city in America and yet plus size women had absolutely no positive voice, image, or platform within that very city. The founder responded to this need by forming a small metro Detroit user group on the popular website yahoo.com. The idea simply was to create a group where plus size women could interactive, supported, and encouraged in one’s own community. Gaining mass support by obtaining over 4,000 members in less than six months, the organization’s founder decided to leave yahoo.com to create the organization’s own website to allow more control of the development of the group. The name of the group was then officially changed to now acclaimed “Full Figures” and with its own website, grew to over 10,000 in fan base in one year’s time. Seeing the mass support and the out pour of gratitude from members inspired the founder to build toward a plan to provide more services and programs that would cater to the needs of the organization’s members. The plan to incorporate Full Figures as a national non- profit organization began in 2007. That decision changed the face of the organization forever but expanded its mission to greater heights. One year later the Founder rolled out six groundbreaking programs to enrich the lives of plus size women. This included a healthy living initiative and the first ever performing arts program for plus size women. Today, Full Figures is now coined the largest plus size organization in the nation with multi-city chapters and seven life enriching programs for over 35,000 members.
